In Her Own Words, DU Girl Recounts Horror of a Camera Staring at Her in Her Own Bathroom '9.30pm, a 'safe' residential area Hudson Lane, Delhi, the place I have been staying for last two years became a place that will haunt me for a long time. I was taking a bath in my pg when I saw a camera lens pointed towards me through the washroom exhaust. The window has a mesh, which claimed by the landlady to be completely opaque. Behind the bathroom is a dingy shady lane. The moment I tried to look closer, the person pulled the camera back and it immediately disappeared. I called out to my roommate, and told her what had happened and asked her to check, but by that time it occurred to me that he must have already fled. We called up the landlady and the cops. Police reached within minutes and investigated the area, but there was no trace of the culprit. I don't know whether I should feel lucky that I caught the camera lens or should I feel scared to the core that this has been go...

10 years ago, on 20th February 2014, more than 50 anti-government protesters were shot dead in Kyiv’s Maidan square, a number of the snipers were Russian special forces flown in to try and crush the protests much like in Belarus & Kazakhstan more recently. The massacre triggered the collapse of Ukraine’s pro-Russian government, prompting Moscow to annex Crimea and sparking a separatist war in the east. For everyone stating it was a CIA move give this a read. https://static.poder360.com.br/ 2022/02/2014-Coup-1.pdf Welcome to Summitgist.blogspot.com This is a blog site that focused on all that’s interesting and matters and history event. A captured Chinese tank crewman being guarded by a Vietnamese soldier, during the Sino-Vietnamese War, which began on this day in 1979. Less than four years after the end of the Vietnam War, the former communist allies turned against each other and a new war broke out in Indochina involving Vietnam, China and Cambodia. On 25 December 1978, following a series of bloody cross-border raids into Vietnam by Pol Pot's troops, Vietnam launched a full-scale invasion of Cambodia and overthrew the genocidal Chinese-backed Khmer Rouge regime in two weeks. In response to Vietnam's invasion of Cambodia, China launched a punitive operation against Vietnam. After a massive artillery bombardment on February 17, 1979, hundreds of thousands of Chinese troops crossed Vietnam's northern border to invade the country. Despite initial progress and enjoying numerical superiority, the PLA soon found itself bogged down in a costly conflict against Vietnamese irregulars, even though many battle-harde...

On 1 February 1968, after the outbreak of the Tet offensive, Associated Press photographer Eddie Adams captured the moment South Vietnamese General Nguyen Ngoc Loan, chief of the national police, executed Viet Cong officer Nguyen Van Lem, also known as Bay Lop, on a street in Saigon. It became one of the most famous photos of the Vietnam War, won Adams the 1969 Pulitzer Prize and stirred up the anti-war movement in the United States. ⠀ But few people know the story behind the image. According to South Vietnamese sources, Lem was a member of a Viet Cong death squad who had been targeting and killing South Vietnamese police officers and their families. Lem was allegedly captured at the site of a mass grave and had executed South Vietnamese Lt. Col. Nguyen Tuan, his wife, five of their six children, and the officer's 80-year-old mother less than 36 hours prior to his capture. ⠀ The lone survivor of Tuan's family, Huan Nguyen, was 9 years old at the time. He was shot three times du...

Oleg, a Ukrainian soldier at the Belbek military base in Crimea, kisses his girlfriend Svetlana through the gates of the base entrance on March 3, 2014. His base and several other Ukrainian military bases across Crimea were surrounded by the "little green men," heavily-armed Russian soldiers without identifying insignia. 10 years ago today, Russia began the invasion and annexation of Crimea. The Russian occupation of Crimea in 2014 occurred against the backdrop of a power vacuum and political instability in Ukraine following the Revolution of Dignity, also known as the Maidan Revolution, which ousted pro-Russian president Victor Yanukovych by a parliamentary vote of 328-0. On February 27, 2014, thousands of Russian troops in unmarked uniforms, often referred to as little green men, appeared throughout Ukraine's Crimea. They began to occupy key locations in Crimea and took control of government buildings, military bases, and strategic infrastructure. Russia initially denie...

As the longest-serving commandant of Auschwitz, Rudolf Höss was an instrumental figure in the "Final Solution," the Nazi plan to systematically murder the Jews of Europe. An early member of the Nazi Party, Höss later became a member of the SS. In early 1940, he arrived at newly built Auschwitz, where he lived at a nearby villa with his wife and children. As commandant, Höss was soon tasked with the execution of the "Final Solution." He was instrumental in developing the gassing process, leading to the adoption of the pesticide Zyklon B in Auschwitz's gas chambers. Höss recalled seeing the effects of Zyklon B gassing in action. "Protected by a gas mask, I watched the killing myself. In the crowded cells, death came instantaneously the moment the Zyklon B was thrown in. A short, almost smothered cry, and it was all over … ." After a reassignment, Höss returned to Auschwitz in 1944 to oversee the mass murder of Hungarian Jews—code-named Operation Höss. Th...

Parents already had two young boys and hoped for a baby girl, ‘instead got something much better
Parents already had two young boys and hoped for a baby girl, ‘instead got something much better’! All children, whether boys or girls are a blessing, yet, there are some things that only parents of little girls can enjoy. “Sugar and spice and all that’s nice, that’s what little girls are made of.” Everyone has heard this rhyme, and a truer rhyme has never been sung. Little girls can be sweet as can be, but they each have some spice and have their flavours making them unique and special in their own ways. Angie and her husband, Geno, already had two young boys when they heard the good news. They were going to have another child. They hoped for a girl, so they couldn’t have been more thrilled when they learned what Angie was carrying in her stomach: not one or two, but three girls! They named the little ones Daniella, Camilla, and Anabella. But as with any multiple birth, the was a danger of complications occurring. Two of the fetuses shared a placenta and ran the risk of not...
Above, Governor Wall hanging on a gibbet with a cloth over his head
Above, Governor Wall hanging on a gibbet with a cloth over his head; below, Governor Wall ordering the flogging of a naked man who is tied to a block. Etching. Wall was hanged in 1802 for flogging to death three soldiers without trial in Gorée, West Africa (The Gambia or Senegal) in 1782 ... Read story Joseph Wall (1737–28 January 1802) was a British Army officer and Lieutenant Governor of Gorée, an island near Dakar, Senegal, who was executed in London for the fatal flogging of one of his soldiers. The former colonial administrator, who had previously been arrested for cruelty, was hanged outside Newgate Prison eight days after a one-day trial at the Old Bailey. Thousands of people came to watch the execution because of the notoriety of the case. Wall was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1737, a son of Garrett Wall of Derryknavin, near Abbeyleix in Queen's County, who is described as "a respectable farmer on Lord Knapton's estates". At the age of 15, Joseph Wall was...
A downed B-29 crew member being taken by Japanese troops in Nigata, Japan (July 20, 1945)
A downed B-29 crew member being taken by Japanese troops in Nigata, Japan (July 20, 1945) Japanese soldiers rescue a B-29 crew. Japanese Troops rescue a U.S. B-29 crew member who was being lynched by Japanese civilians. Many downed air crew members in captivity at the time of the Japanese surrender were actually executed by their guards in the confusion because of the guards' anger over having to feed and care for the enemy. Thousands of Allied prisoners were killed throughout the war, especially towards the end, as they were being put (packed) into transport ships that were then attacked by US airplanes and submarines. Propaganda is insane. The Japanese government committed unspeakable atrocities and raped like half of China and the Pacific Islands, but they go ballistic when given a small taste of their own medicine As a B-29 bomber, he was probably tortured to death. Bomber crewmen were absolutely despised by the population of the Axis countries, for obvious reasons. He most lik...
The Nanjing Massacre: Scenes from a Hideous Slaughter 75 Years Ago
The Nanjing Massacre: Scenes from a Hideous Slaughter 75 Years Ago A Japanese headsman tells a Chinese prisoner how to hold his head for a smooth decapitation in a photo dated from 1938 . 75 years ago, on Dec. 13, 1937, Japanese troops captured the city of Nanjing, then the capital of the Chinese republic led by Chiang Kai-shek and went on a six-week campaign of carnage and slaughter that would be forever remembered as the “Rape of Nanjing.” Reports document widespread rape and the indiscriminate killing of civilians; some death tolls estimate over a quarter of a million people were killed. The incident, though, still rankles Sino-Japanese relations. Japanese nationalists contend that the death tolls are inflated and the majority killed were resisting Japanese occupation. To this day, pages in Japanese school history textbooks can incite heated protests on the streets in China. Then and now, the Nanjing massacre remains one of the darkest events of the last century.—Ishaan Tharoor Here...
