EXECUTION OF JOACHIM MURAT

Image
EXECUTION OF JOACHIM MURAT Joachim Murat, the French cavalry leader who was a key military strategist in Napoleon's rise to power in France and his subsequent creation of an empire in continental Europe, was executed in 1815 in Pizzo in Calabria. When the fatal moment arrived, Murat walked with a firm step to the place of execution, as calm, as unmoved, as if he had been going to an ordinary review. He would not accept a chair, nor suffer his eyes to be bound. Before his death, he said; "I have braved death too often to fear it." He stood upright, proudly and undauntedly, with his countenance towards the soldiers; and when all was ready, he kissed a cameo on which the head of his wife was engraved, and gave the word — thus: "Soldiers! Do your duty! Straight to the heart but spare the face. Fire!" CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE VIDEO .

In 1791, the French physician Jean Guillotine proposed to reform the process of execution

Image
GUILLOTINE In 1791, the French physician Jean Guillotine proposed to reform the process of execution.  The goal of this proposition consisted of making beheadings not only a privilege of the nobles, in addition to also carrying out the process as quickly as possible in order to cause the least amount of suffering. After all, in those days, death sentences involved the cruelest of methods: burning at the stake, hanging and quartering. Therefore, there in lay the guillotine. A special feature of the guillotine comes in the form of sharpening the blade at an angle with weights weighing 40-100kg, enabling it to move unhindered down its vertical runners. Executions were carried out as follows: the convict’s neck was pinned between two boards equipped with access holes, the body laid upon a wooden bench. After this, the latch holding back the knife is opened via lever mechanism, and the blade falls rapidly toward the victim’s neck from a height of about 2 – 3 meters. The severed head

TITUS OATES STANDING IN PILLORY

Image
TITUS OATES STANDING IN PILLORY Titus Oates (1649-1705) was the fabricator of the so-called Popish Plot, which was to overshadow religious and political life in Britain from 1678 until the end of Charles II's reign. At the height of his influence, Oates was provided with the power to order the arrest of whomsoever he accused: at least 22 men were executed on his perjured evidence. His lies finally caught up with him on 10 May 1684, when he was himself arrested after calling the Duke of York a traitor. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in May 1685, and his punishment included being placed in the pillory five times a year It is likely that this print records his first public humiliation, on 19 May 1685. Despite his blatant and murderous lies, Oates was released from prison in 1689 by William III, and had his pension reinstated. CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE VIDEO .

After some time, the executed person came to life and tried to dig  himself out of the ground. A nobleman passing by noticed a stirring of the earth and helped Bartendeil. The district sheriff found out about this and began to seek the re-execution of Bartendeil. However, the impossibility of an unambiguous identification of the rescued put the court at a standstill. The nobleman who saved Bartendeil, refused to testify about the place and circumstances of salvation, referring to the lack of knowledge of the area, and Bartendeil took advantage of the old English right to be called by any name. The method involved trapping a person between two boats or hollowed-out tree trunks, smearing them with honey and milk, and then leaving them to be devoured by insects. OmG! The victim would be stripped naked and placed in one of the boats. The other boat would be placed on top of them, trapping them inside. Holes would be cut in the top boat to allow the person's head, arms, and legs to protrude. The person would then be fed a mixture of milk and honey, which would attract insects such as flies, wasps, and ants. Over time, the insects would swarm around and inside the person's body, eating the honey and milk, and eventually, the person's flesh. The victim would be left to suffer in the boats, often for several days, until they died from a

The curved blade was common in the early decades of the 19th century when surgeons preferred to cut through the skin and muscle before amputating the bone

In this vivid painting by  @theartofchrisfisher , you can see a surgeon using a falciform amputation knife. The curved blade was common in the early decades of the 19th century when surgeons preferred to cut through the skin and muscle before amputating the bone. To do this, the surgeon would take the falciform knife, hook it around the injured or infected limb, and cut in a circle to separate the flesh and muscle from the bone. Afterwards, he would use a saw to cut off the remaining appendage. All this was done without anesthetic. A good surgeon could remove a limb in under two minutes. . Robert Liston, famed for being the “fastest knife in the West End,” could do it under 60 seconds. It was said of this great surgeon that when he amputated, “the gleam of his knife was followed so instantaneously by the sound of sawing as to make the two actions appear almost simultaneous.” His left arm was reportedly so strong, he could use it effectively as a tourniquet while he wielded the knife in

The Only Catholic Priest Ever to be Executed in American

Image
The Only Catholic Priest Ever to be Executed in American  This is Hans Schmidt, the only Catholic Priest to have been executed in history. Schmidt illegally married, impregnated, and then brutally murdered and dismembered his mistress. For that crime, he was eventually executed via electrocution, and to this day is the only Catholic priest ever executed in the United States. Turns out, the murder he was caught for was only the tip of the iceberg. think of priests as the bastions of the kindness of every community. Many priests are there to portray God’s will, and thus many of them act accordingly, helping their respective communities and acting as figures for many to look up to. Even so many priests take advantage of their positions for their own gain, looking at the community that they lead as cash cows or people they can easily manipulate. Although many priests have been arrested due to such abuses of their community, none of them performed such egregious actions to result in a death

How John C. Woods Lied His Way Into Hanging Hitler's Top Nazis Master Sergeant John C. Woods was an American executioner assigned to hang 10 Nazi leaders during the Nuremberg executions in 1946. Of the 10 men he was charged with hanging, at least 7 of them weren’t killed by a broken neck, which is how a hanging is supposed to work.⠀ ⠀ “Those Nazis were bad, bad men. So what if it took longer for them to die. Maybe they should have thought of that as they were sending people to concentration camps." ⠀ ⠀ U.S. Army hangman John C. Woods was a psychopath who lied his way into becoming the executioner at Nuremberg — and did everything in his power to ensure that the condemned Nazi leaders suffered until their last breath. See the disturbing photos and learn how one American intentionally botched the deaths of several Nazi leaders to ensure their agonizing deaths by clicking the link in our bio.⠀ ⠀ John Clarence Woods (June 5, 1911 – July 21, 1950) was a United States Army master se
