Richard Jarczyk, a German spy, saying his last words before execution. April 23, 1945 In March 1945 he ended up in the Rhineland region, occupied by American Forces, and began to work in the newly created administration. His frequent departures aroused suspicion. As it turned out, he was collecting information about the activity of the American Army, in order to pass it on to one of the Werewolf groups. - WWII in color My goodness what kind of a deadender do you have to be in March 1945 to be working hand in glove with the Nazi's to screw the Americans/French/British? That is some insane level commitment. “Richard Jarczyk, Nazi soldier, who became a spy in civilian clothes, was executed April 23, 1945, after court trial by a military commission of the Seventh U.S. Army. After he had discarded his uniform, Jarczyk, former member of the Volks Grenadier Division, approached U.S. Army officials and offered his services in establishing a civilian government in an occupied area of the R...

US troops encounter a German soldier hanged by his comrades, 1945 Throughout the last days of the Third Reich, it ruthlessly forced its desperate conscripts by threat of summary execution into service to slow the overwhelming Soviet army. Borrowing a page from Gen. Ferdinand Schoerner's no-mercy demonstrative hangings of any "straggler" found behind front lines without orders, Goebbels issued a radio proclamation to the trapped troops lof Berlin]: Any man found that not doing his duty will be hanged from a lamp post after a summary judgment. Moreover, placards will be attached to the corpses stating: I have been hanged here because I am too cOwardly to defend the capital of the Reich. I have been hanged because I did not believe in the Fuhrer. I am a deserter, and for this reason, I shall not see this turning pont in history." SS members are aware that they would be in for the worst of it after the war (and that their mandatory blood-type tattoos would make them easy...

Battle Of Ramree Island: February 19, 1945, during a fierce battle on the island Ramram (Burma), English marines lured the Japanese army in the mangrove swamps, which lived thousands of saltwater crocodiles. It is estimated the Saltwater Crocodiles devoured over 500 Japanese soldiers. Over 500 Japanese escaped, and historians have dismissed the claims that hundreds of Japanese were killed by the crocodiles. Instead the majority of the deaths are attributed to Wounds and thirst. Homunculus_316 The British did not spend a single bullet or shel. The report of the Japanese army colonel Yasu Yunuko declassified last year, testifies: "Ramram of mangrove swamps from the detachment returned alive only 22 soldiers and 3 officers." Check the special commission of the military court, which conducted an investigation 2 months later, showed that the water the area of wetlands, an area of 3 square kilometers, 24% is from human blood. l'd say it's just a mistranslation, since the c...

Nazi General Anton Dostler Before His Execution, 1945 He ordered and oversaw the unlawful execution of fifteen captured U.S. soldiers. The soldiers were sent behind the German lines with orders to demolish a tunnel that was being used by the German army as a supply route to the front lines. They were captured and upon learning of their mission, Dostler ordered their execution without trial As well German officers at the 135th Fortress Brigade contacted Dostler in an attempt to achieve a delay of their execution. Dostler sent another telegram ordering Almers to carry out the execution. Two last attempts were made by the officers at the 135th to stop the execution, including some by telephone, because they knew that executing uniformed prisoners of war was a direct violation of the 1929 Geneva Convention on Prisoners of War. These efforts were unsuccessful and the 15 Americans were executed on the morning of March 26, 1944, at Punta Bianca south of La Spezia, in the municipality of Amegl...

American soldier killed by German snipers in Leipzig, 1945 War photographer Robert Capa took this iconic photo of an American soldier shot and killed by a German sniper in the battle for Leipzig on 18 April 1945. The soldier became known as the ‘last man to die’ in WWII after the image appeared in Life magazine’s Victory issue.... During the final days of the war, a platoon of machine gunners entered a Leipzig building looking for positions to set up covering fire points that would protect foot soldiers of the 2nd U.S. Infantry advancing across the bridge. Two members of the platoon found an open balcony that commanded on an unobstructed view of the bridge, set up their gun. For a while, one soldier fired the gun while the other fed it. Then one soldier went inside and the other manned the smoking gun alone. While absorbed in reloading it, a German sniper’s bullet from the street pierced his forehead. He crumpled to the floor, dead. War photographer Robert Capa climbed through a b...

A Woolly Mammoth skull in a farmers field in Lima Township, Michigan
University of Michigan recover a Woolly Mammoth skull in a farmers field in Lima Township, Michigan A year after a farmer’s discovery, the University of Michigan will publicly display bones from a mammoth that lived more than 10,000 years ago. The exhibit opens Saturday at the university’s Museum of Natural History. Scientists aren’t done yet: They plan to return to a Washtenaw County farm for another dig in November. Jim Bristle, a farmer in Lima Township, discovered the bones while installing a drain pipe in his soybean field. He called the University of Michigan, and experts recovered roughly 40 percent of the mammoth’s skeletal mass, including a skull with teeth and tusks. The bones were just 10 feet below the surface. The mammoth may have been a hybrid, between a woolly mammoth and a Columbian mammoth. Enjoy Christmas 2023 with these promotions offers and its benefits. Special offer for our readers and it's free. Tortured, beaten, castrated by soldiers from his own army - for joining Mau Mau
Tortured, beaten, castrated by soldiers from his own army - for joining Mau Mau In the eyes of many historians, the campaign against Mau Mau fighters was the bloodiest British suppression of any of their colonial uprisings anywhere in the world When Mwangi Kanyari returned to Kenya in 1946 after fighting for the allies in Egypt in World War II, he expected land and freedom; to live peacefully on a small farm with his wife and family amid the fertile White Highlands that the British had occupied for 100 years. Within a decade Kanyari had been tortured, beaten and castrated by soldiers of the same army he had been proud to serve with. His crime? Taking the secret oath and joining the underground liberation army known as Mau Mau. Fighting for independence, Mau Mau attacked police posts and assassinated Kenyans loyal to the Crown. Assaulting remote farms, they struck fear into the white community, killing 32 settlers and making Mau Mau a byword in Britain for what was then termed ‘sa...
The Bizarre Story Of Patty Hearst, The Kidnapped Heiress Who Joined The Symbionese Liberation Army
"First person puts up his head, I'll blow his motherf**king head off!" That's what publishing heiress Patty Hearst said as she robbed a San Francisco bank on April 15, 1974. But she didn't introduce herself by her birth name. Instead, she reportedly called herself "Tania," the name she'd taken after joining the Symbionese Liberation Army, a leftist guerrilla group. It was a shocking transformation for the apolitical 19-year-old — especially since the SLA had actually kidnapped Hearst from her Berkeley home just a couple of months prior. The bank incident led many to believe that Hearst was forced into joining the group while in captivity. But others were convinced that she was genuinely radicalized, especially since just one month later, she fired multiple bullets outside of a Los Angeles store to help her "comrades" escape from being arrested for shoplifting. In 1974, a group of leftist radicals calling themselves the “Symbionese Li...
