A little girl being showcased in a human zoo, 1958 Yes, you read that right. People, usually from Africa or indigenous areas were taken from their homes and toured around the world for the entertainment of others. Seen here is a little girl from Africa in a western dress being fed from the hand of one of the bystanders at the event, like an animal in a cage. The most astonishing thing about these is that they existed right until the 1960s when they were deemed to breach human rights. This human zoo was in Belgium. Other human zoos existed too. In Missouri America, there was the Igorot Village, which you can see in the second image. The Igorrote people are an indigenous tribe from the Philippines. The US spent $1.5 million to round up about 1,500 Igorrote members who would volunteer to come to the US. There, they would find themselves in a fake village at Coney Island amusement park. Following the Russian October Revolution in November 1917, the Socialist Bolsheviks had taken control of the country and immediately sought peace terms with the Central Powers, to end the war that the old Russian tsarist regime had entered. . The Central Powers, especially the Germans, were also very keen on ending the war on the Eastern Front, which would free millions of troops for deployment to the Western Front, and potentially gain the Germans access to Ukrainian wheat fields. . The soldier who went on a one man rampage, 1968 Roy P Benavidez was born in Texas in 1935. His father was Mexican and his mother was Yaqui native Mexican. They both died of tuberculosis when Benavidez was young. He was bullied for his Mexican accent and heritage in school and worked hard labour to support his family, but dreamed of joining the US Army. At the age of 15, he dropped out of school to work on a farm. However, as soon as he was ready, Roy enlisted in the US armed forces. He also got married around this time and had 3 children. In 1965, Roy qualified for the special forces and was deployed to Vietnam. Roy was on a secret surveillance mission dressed as a Vietcong fighter when he stepped on a landmine. He was sent back to America and in hospital, he was told that he would never walk again.
