SUIC!DE OR MURDER? THE CURIOUS CASE OF RONALD OPUS On March 23, 1994 the medical examiner viewed the body of Ronald Opus and concluded that he died from a shotgun wound to the head. Mr. Opus had jumped from the top of a ten-story building intending to comm!t suic!de. He left a note to the effect indicating his despondency. As he fell past the ninth floor his life was interrupted by a shotgun blast passing through a window, which k!lled him instantly. Neither the shooter nor the deceased was aware that a safety net had been installed just below the eighth floor level to protect some building workers and that Ronald Opus would not have been able to complete his suicide the way he had planned. "Ordinarily," Dr Mills continued, "A person, who sets out to comm!t suic!de and ultimately succeeds, even though the mechanism might not be what he intended, is still defined as comm!tting suic!de." That Mr. Opus was shot on the way to certain death, but probably would not have b

15 infamous last words from criminals on death row Here are some of the strangest last words before execution What words does a convicted criminal choose to be their last before they die? Would they ask for forgiveness or tell their family they’ll miss them? Most probably do. Others, however, have other things to say. Here are some of the strangest last words before execution: 1. Jimmy Glass, 1987 (Louisiana) oddee.com Last Words:  “I’d Rather Be Fishing” On Christmas of 1982, 20 year-old Jimmy Glass and inmate Jimmy Wingo escaped from jail and shot an elderly couple to death while burglarizing their home. Both blamed each other for the crime and both ended up on the electric chair. 2. Jeffrey David Matthews, 2011 (Oklahoma) crime.about.com Last Words:  “I think that governor’s phone is broke. Truly monstrous what people have done and are capable of. Sometimes, when l read about/think about WWIl, it feels so long ago, so far away, but in reality, it was 66 years ago, not even one lifetime, a blink of the eye on earth. The fact that Hitler was alive just brief while ago, that men who fought on all sides of the conflict still walk the earth, sometimes feels surreal. The Juanita mummy, also known as the Lady of Ampato or the Inca Ice Maiden, is one of the highlights of a visit to Arequipa. Some 500 years ago, a finely dressed and well-fed noble Incan girl around twelve to fourteen years old was sacrificed on the cold heights of Ampato Volcano in Arequipa, alongside other youths. The aim was probably to procure protection from the gods against future volcanic activity. Cold temperatures perfectly preserved their bodies, but the ice mummies were hidden from sight until the volcanic ash from the eruption of nearby Sabancaya volcano caused part of the glacier to melt. Much of the burial site likely fell into the crater when this happened, but Juanita and the other mummies were discovered around the crater in 1995 during an expedition directed by Johan Reinhard. In the vicinity, spondyllus, diverse Andean grains and plants, and several gold statues were also found. Enjoy Christmas 2023 with these promotions offers and its benefits. Special offer for ou

Lawmakers stuffed a provision into the Pentagon funding bill that makes it all but impossible for Trump to leave NATO A brief provision in the massive $886 billion bill funding the Pentagon will likely kill former President Donald Trump or any potential future president's ambitions to withdraw the United States from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Sens. Tim Kaine, a Virginia Democrat, and Marco Rubio, a Florida Republican, teamed up to muscle their bill — which would require an act of Congress or Senate approval to leave NATO — into what is often deemed a must-pass bill that funds servicemembers and outlines national security priorities. President Joe Biden is expected to sign the legislation into law. The Senate passed the overall legislation 87 to 13. The House passed it on Friday on a 310-118 vote. "The Senate's vote today to pass my bipartisan bill to prevent any U.S. President from unilaterally withdrawing from NATO reaffirms U.S. support for this crucial alli
