Image
SHIRI TORTURE The torture called shiri, one of the most horrific in human history, was practiced in the Asian deserts, in what is now Mongolia and Kyrgyzstan. A raw camel hide, known as the shiri, was divided into several pieces and was stretched over the shaven head of the captured victim. The prisoners were then left out in the steppe without food or water under the blazing sun. If they had not already perished from dehydration or starvation, the drying out of the camel skin created an insufferable pressure on the skull. Of the few that survived this ordeal would lost their memories and never yearn to return home or revolt against their tormentors. When Your Childhood Friend Comes At You In Riot Gear

When Your Childhood Friend Comes At You In Riot Gear Two childhood friends meet during a protest. One is a factory worker, the other is a riot officer. Guy Burmieux and Jean-Yvon Antignac were childhood friends but they chose different paths in life. On April 6, 1972 in Brittany, France, Guy was part of a protest to get better working conditions. Jean-Yvon and other riot officers were called in to quell the protestors. Not because it’s a brilliant candid shot of a protesting factory worker and a riot officer in a standoff. Although it is. But because, like many moments in life, the backstory is just as poignant. Take a minute to absorb the emotion on the striker’s face. We might assume his expression is triggered by heated emotions related to the protest. But it was more than that. This is the moment the protestor recognized that the officer with the baton was his childhood friend. True story. Long before Jacques Gourmelen took this photo on April 6, 1972 in Saint-Brieuc (France), the

Pictures, postcards, and other trinkets were sold to commemorate this evil, dark practice. New Orleans, LA — August 2019 will mark 400 years of the first documented arrival of Africans brought to America as indentured servants. Children suffered and continue to suffer cruelties such as sex slaves, forced child labor, physical abuse, and in some cases, human cannibalism in the United States. These cruelties are a big part of human trafficking where body organs and other body parts are sold t

Florence “Flora” Stevens was 36 when she disappeared on Aug. 3, 1975, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office said. “She had been dropped off by her husband for a doctor’s appointment at Community General Hospital, which was located in Monticello at the time,” police said in a statement. “When her husband returned to pick her up, she had vanished.” Detectives periodically reviewed the case to find the missing woman, who was an employee at the Concord Hotel, but were never able to develop leads. On Sept. 15, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by a New York State Police investigator who said a set of unidentified skeletal remains was found in southern Orange County.
