SHIRI TORTURE


The torture called shiri, one of the most horrific in human history, was practiced in the Asian deserts, in what is now Mongolia and Kyrgyzstan.



A raw camel hide, known as the shiri, was divided into several pieces and was stretched over the shaven head of the captured victim. The prisoners were then left out in the steppe without food or water under the blazing sun.

If they had not already perished from dehydration or starvation, the drying out of the camel skin created an insufferable pressure on the skull. Of the few that survived this ordeal would lost their memories and never yearn to return home or revolt against their tormentors.

A raw camel hide known also as “shiri” was a torture method used by steppe tribes of Mongolia and Kyrgyzstan. The hide was stretched over the victim’s shaved head. Afterward, the victim was tied down and left without water and food in the steppe.

The drying of the camel skin created insufferable pressure on the skull. The hair couldn’t grow out and instead grew inwards.

The victims which somehow survived this torture suffered from amnesia
