I earn £50 as a naked cleaner - my partner is okay with it but some of my clients have creepy requests A woman who works as a naked cleaner has revealed the weirdest parts of the job - including clients who are also naked. Lottie Rae, 32, took up the unusual role to make some extra money in 2017, and charges £50 an hour - estimating she's made a few thousand pounds over the years. The British cleaner says in the six years she's been working as a naked cleaner she's had a range of clients - including some who just want company, naturists, and others who 'hope for something more'. The cleaner, who describes herself as 'free-spirited' says the role has made her feel more body confident and even says it's empowering. Lottie said: 'There's a fair few people who are creepy - a handful of the guys I clean for book cleaners on the premise they will get something else. The cleaner, who describes herself as 'free-spirited' says the role has made he

The actresses who scandalised Ancient Rome

Image
Did women really act on the stage in ancient times? A look at the lives and liberation of Colosseum actresses in honour of International Women’s Day. The ancient philosopher Cicero once said: “Our ancestors, in their wisdom, considered that all women, because of their innate weakness, should be under the control of guardians.” In ancient Rome, actresses had limited freedom, as did all women. Classical theatre acting and wine, which were patroned by the god of ecstasy, Bacchus, were forbidden to them during the Republic. Women couldn’t act in classical plays, while wives would be kissed by their husbands to check for evidence of drinking, which could be punished by divorce or death. Suspicion was also increased by Bacchanalia festivals – rumoured to have involved drunkenness, orgies and even murder –  which women had attended in secret. Masked male actors, who were usually slaves or labourers, played female roles like the mother, maid and romantic interest.  The word for mask was ‘perso

The First Monokini: Trying to make the Topless Swimsuit happen in 1964

W hen we think of the monokini today, we picture those fiddly one-piece swimsuits that give you awkward tan lines, popularised by the Kardashian and Hilton sisters. But the first monokini was in fact originally a topless swimsuit that exposed the female breasts, conceived in 1964 by avant-garde designer Rudi Gernreich, who predicted (rather accurately) that “bosom will be uncovered within five years.” While the design initially had a harder time catching on in the United States (the first American model to pose in the swimsuit, Peggy Moffitt, received death threats), the monokini appears to have found itself more at home unsurprisingly in Paris, at the legendary Piscine Molitor, where the first bikini was revealed to the world nearly twenty years earlier in 1946… In this press shoot I found in the  LIFE archives , photographer Paul Schutzer captures model Daphne Dayle showing off the topless design for a pack of hungry male journalists. The suit’s creator, Rudi Gernreich, was an Austri

Captured Chinese Soldiers beg for their lives to a South Korean Soldier thinking that they are going to be executed, Korea 1951.

During the late Meiji Era, Japan tried to put on a facade as a "civilized imperial power" of sorts. It was noted that they treated Russian prisoners exceptionally well in 1905. But by all accounts, their treatment of Chinese and Korean prisoners and civilians during the Sino Japanese War of 1895 were nothing short of barbaric. In fairness, that's not at all inconsistent with the other "civilised imperial powers" of the time. In  general  they tended to extend much better treatment towards one another in war than they did to unruly colonial subjects. During apartheid in South Africa, Japanese were officially considered white while Chinese were considered as black. My late wife was Korean. She grew up with her mother and grandmother. Her grandfather was kidnapped (volunteered) by the Japanese to fight in WWII. When they led him away from her grandmother was the last time anyone from her family saw him alive. My wife's grandmother died in the mid-1990's. No
