Chris McCandless was an American adventurer and subject of the book "Into the Wild" by Jon Krakauer, which was later adapted into a film. Born on February 12, 1968, in El Segundo, California, McCandless grew up in a middle-class family and had a promising future ahead of him.

After graduating from Emory University in 1990, McCandless embarked on a journey of self-discovery. He abandoned his possessions, donated his savings to charity, and cut off contact with his family, adopting the alias "Alexander Supertramp." Inspired by the writings of Jack London and Henry David Thoreau, McCandless sought a solitary and simpler existence, free from societal constraints.

In 1992, McCandless hitchhiked to Alaska and lived off the land in the wilderness of the Denali National Park. He survived for several months, relying on his survival skills, foraging for food, and even hunting small game. However, his isolation and lack of preparation eventually led to his demise. McCandless's body was discovered in an abandoned bus on the Stampede Trail in August 1992. He had starved to death.

McCandless's story garnered significant attention due to his idealistic pursuit of a life disconnected from modern society and his tragic fate. "Into the Wild" explores his motivations, the experiences he had on his journey, and the impact he had on the people he encountered along the way.
