Margot Luise Fischbeck was a German girl who was born in Bergedorf on the 17th of March 1935 to German parents Hans and Meta Fischbeck.

Margot had a brother 3 years her junior whose name is unknown. Margot's development was normal until she was 2 years old. Although she could not yet walk by the age of 15 months, she had learned to speak. She contracted meningitis, which led to epileptic seizures that affected her mental development until she could no longer speak. The only word she could say was "Mama." She needed help to eat and dress and often wet

herself because she was unable to control her bladder.

Caring for Margot was such a burden to the family that they put her in an institution. When she was 5 years old,

she was admitted to the Alsterdorf Mental Institution. Margot liked to play alone and was unusually calm.

After the institution suffered bomb damage during the air raids in July and August 1943, Margot and 227 other girls and women were evacuated to a mental institution in

Vienna. The transport left Hamburg on the 16th of August 1943. 5 weeks after her arrival, Margot and 13 other girls were transferred to the Am Spiegelgrund clinic.

Spiegelgrund was a 'special children's ward' of the Reich Committee for the Scientific Registering of Hereditary and Congenital llnesses" - a children's euthanasia facility.

The 14 girls, of whom Margot was one, were all murdered within nearly 4 months of their transfer. 8 year old Margot was murdered on the 11th of November 1943 and was buried in the Central Cemetery in Vienna. However, her brain was removed and used for research. An investigation into the deaths in 1983 showed that the

patients were murdered either with medication or by starvation. On the 9th of May 2012, the remains of 61

identified victims of Nazi euthanasia were buried at the Vienna Central Cemetery, including Margot's brain and other specimens from her body
