An executed nun, exhibited at the Castle Montjuic in Barcelona for crimes against the state in 1936 during the Spanish civil war.
It is believed that her corpse was dug up from the grave. The Red terror is the period of time when acts of violences were committed during the
Spanish civil war, mostly by the communistic parties.
it was the republicans not the fascists, and they just disinterred a bunch of nun corpses form a church, not.executed nun. Read story below

One thing to note, while the Red Terror absolutely existed it was also a major propaganda boon for the Nationalist
side. Pictures of especially grotesque violence like this should be taken with a grain of salt, as atrocities were absolutely played up during the war Assuming that the r/historyporn. caption is correct, and this picture is from Barcelona in July 1936, it's especially odd. The Spanish Civil War did not begin until July 1936, with a coup by right wing generals. Most of the 'red terror" was a spontaneous, decentralized outburst of violence
against religious authorities in the early days of the war - while nuns were swept up, they weren't the main target,
and the violence was more prevalent in places where ecclesiastic authority was still strong, namely more rural
areas rather than the heavily industrial and very left-wing cities So looking at this picture, it's odd.
The nun is clearly in an advanced stage of decomposition, but the war only began a few weeks before the picture was allegedly taken. This is also allegedly in Barcelona, the heart of the Spanish Republic, but instances of anti-clerical violence would have been rare there, especially murdering nuns and displaying their decomposing bodies for long periods Taking pictures of atrocities absolutely happens (look at how many pictures we have of the holocaust), but this picture really reeks to me of Francoist propaganda, like they pulled a dead nun out of the crypts somewhere to make some propaganda to viscerally ilustrate perceived atrocities
