George was the son of Richard Plantagenet, Duke of York, and Cecily Neville, and the brother of two kings: Edward IV and Richard IlI.


As his brother Edward IV ascended to the throne in 1461, George was granted the title of Duke of Clarence,
cementing his place as one of the most influential men in England. However, tensions soon began to simmer within the royal family as Edward's favouritism towards his wife's family, the Woodvilles, rankled George and his allies.

In 1470, George's simmering resentment boiled over into
open rebellion when he allied himself with the powerful Warwick the Kingmaker in a bid to overthrow his own brother. The rebellion proved short-lived, and George was forced to flee to France, where he sought refuge at the court of Louis XI.

But George's exile would be short-lived, as the tides of fortune swiftly turned once again. In 1471, Edward IV decisively defeated the forces of Warwick and reclaimed
his throne. With his dreams of kingship dashed, George found himself a pawn in the deadly game of medieval politics.

Desperate to regain his brother's favour, George returned
to England and pledged his loyalty to Edward once more. Yet, despite his professed contrition, suspicions lingered, and George soon found himself embroiled in yet another
conspiracy, this time against the king's own children.

In 1478, George's treachery reached its zenith when he was arrested and charged with high treason. In a swift
and brutal trial, he was found guilty and sentenced to death. Tradition holds that George met his end in a most fitting manner: drowned in a cask of malmsey wine, a fate
befitting his noble birth and ignoble deeds.
