CCTV shows bizarre method man escapes cafe he 'broke into'

CCTV footage has captured the bizarre moment a man attempted to escape a café in Bournemouth following a break-in. 

A man allegedly broke into Foodelicious Moordown in Wimborne Road in the early hours of Wednesday, January 25. 

He appears to attempt an escape through a window at the side of the building in the kitchen and struggles in doing so, before climbing onto a kitchen unit. 

Pei Armstrong, owner of Foodelicious Moordown, said she found the whole ordeal “annoying” and that he went through “so much effort” for little reward. 

She said: “The guy in the video broke in during the early hours of the 25th and he came through the front door. 

“He managed to bend the two metal bars on the little window and he came through that door. 

“He only spent a few minutes in the premises, but he took a mobile phone and a charger and then he got out through the kitchen window. 

“As you can see, he was pulling and pushing on the metal bar and he got out that way.” 

Pei said she found out about the break-in when she came into work that morning.

She said: “I only found I had been broken into when I came into work the next morning and I saw the window wide open and the bar had been pushed. 

“Fortunately, he didn’t damage anything else, all he did was search through the building and then he got out.” 

A café has been in its place for nine years and Pei has run the café for the past 15 months.

Pei said there has never been a break-in during her time at the café. 

“This has never happened before, this is the first time,” she said.

“I was shocked and it is a bit annoying. I didn’t know somebody was so desperate to come into the café to go through a window with two metal bars on it.  

“There was so much effort and he didn’t get anything else. I’ll have to fix the metal bars back together but that is all.” 

Pei said she reported the break-in to Dorset Police online.
