The Dark Side of Humanity Marina Abramovic Rhythm 0 Experiment
Friends, Marina Abramovic, who is considered one of the pioneers of modern art, is a world-famous performance artist. I am also doing research for the art category, but this time the subject is psychology. In 1979, she exhibited her own body as an object. Although the action started as art, it turned into a psychological experiment that almost reached the point of brutality. What does it take to unleash the beast within a person? It answered the question. I researched the blood-curdling incident for you.
In 1979, performance artist Marina Abramovic, who was not yet well-known at the time, performed one of the most unforgettable, most talked about and perhaps most terrifying shows in the history of performing arts. What he did in this show, which he called Rhythm 0, was actually very simple. stand still in place
The audience approached the artist in a very humane manner at the beginning of the show. In the first moments of the show, the audience pinned the roses on the table to Marina's collar, so much so that some even fed cake to the motionless artist, thinking that she would be hungry. But after a certain time, people's focus shifted to other objects
The audience reacted with a light slap to the defenseless woman, and the artist was indeed just standing defenseless. This incident suddenly revealed the violence within people. The crowd that had just fed cake to Marina Abramovic was now showing violence. Unfortunately, the events were not limited to a slap; the crowd began to actively use the frightening objects on the table, so much so that a spectator took a gun and pressed it to the woman's forehead, then gave it to the woman and made her point the gun at herself. Realizing that the woman was now defenseless, the crazy crowd went further and started sexually harassing her.
Realizing that the woman was defenseless, the crowd began to sexually harass her and began to pull and harass her. The crowd cut off the woman's top with the scissors on the table and left her naked. They started to make artist Marina Abramovic's body bleed with the scissors they had just cut off her clothes. The artist could not hold back his tears in the face of all these sexual harassment and sadistic behaviors, but the crowd ignored these tears and continued their tendencies.
A female artist, disturbed by these sadistic tendencies, wiped Marina Abramovic's tears and hugged her. The artist needed this so much that this show, held under the name of art, turned into a social experiment. This "artistic experiment" showed how easily the evil within people could emerge.
After the woman, the minority group, who were disturbed by what was done to the artist, surrounded her in a protective circle, put her clothes back on, closed the wound on her neck, covered the other bleeding parts of her body with tape, and offered the woman a cigarette.
This event, which turned into a social experiment rather than a performance art, revealed the reasons why well-intentioned people who were disturbed by this situation could not show the same courage of solidarity or were late in this regard, although the majority could easily reveal the evil within them by taking courage from each other.
When the performance ended after 6 hours and Abramovic started moving again, the crowd ran away as if they had confronted a scary person. The crowd was horrified when the person they had just tortured without hesitation regained his individual form and acted...
