Soviet soldiers openly sexually harass German woman in Leipzig

This whole "What about" propaganda line is getting tired. There's already a word for it. It's called "hypocrisy," and Europeans are guilty of it

personal experiences of suffering at home, and an allegedly fully demeaning picture of German women in the press, not to mention among the soldiers themselves" as a part reason for the widespread rapes. Naimark also noted the effect that the tendency to binge-drink alcohol (of which much was available in Germany) had on the propensity of Soviet soldiers to commit rape, especially rape-murder.

Naimark also notes the allegedly patriarchal nature of Russian culture and of the Asian societies comprising

the Soviet Union, where dishonour was in the past repaid by raping the women of the enemy.

The fact that the Germans had a much higher standard of living visible even when in ruins "may well have contributed allegedly to a national inferiority complex among Russians." Combining Russian feelings of inferiority, the resulting need to restore honour, and their desire for revenge may be the reason many women were raped in public as well as in front of husbands before both were killed.

According to Antony Beevor, revenge was not the only reason for the frequent rapes; but the Soviet troops'

feeling of entitlement to all types of spoils of war, including women, was an important factor as well. Beevor

exemplifies this with his discovery that Soviet troops also raped Soviet and Polish girls and women who were

liberated from Nazi concentration camps as well as those who were held for forced labour at farms and factories."

The Japanese rape of the city of Nanking is arguably worse. If only because the Soviets were provoked. 1

in 5 Russian men died in that war. The entire city of Leningrad was surrounded and starved to almost. death.

The Japanese invaded China and committed atrocities just because they could. lam, I'm not saying what happened.is any less horrendous in Germany, but vengeance is a powerful force. None of us could possibly imagine what would be going on in our minds after watching our homeland destroyed and losing most of our friends and family because of a foreign invasion.

The Russians reaped what they

sowed by helping the Germans with eastern Europe.. World War Two was just terrible all around. When I

read about the things human beings were doing to each other, it's horrifying and tragic.

Examples of mass rapes in Soviet Union committed by German soldiers include:

Smolensk: German command opened a brothel for officers in which hundreds of women and girls were driven by force, often by arms and hair.

32 women working in a garment factory were raped and murdered by German soldiers in public parks. 

A priest trying to stop the atrocity was murdered. Borissov in Belarus:

75 women and girls attempting to flee at the approach of the German troops were captured by them. The Germans first raped and then savagely murdered 36 of their number.

By order of a German officer named Hummer, the soldiers marched L. I. Melchukova, a 16-year-old girl, into

the forest, where they raped her.

A little later, some other women who had also been dragged into the forest saw some boards near the trees, and the dying Melchukova nailed to the boards.

The Germans had cut off her breasts in the presence of other women. Kerch: imprisoned women were raped and tortured; breasts were cut off,stomachs ripped open, limbs cut off, and eyes gouged out. A mass graveful of mutilated bodies of young women was found after Germans were driven out of town.

Lviv-Germans soldiers raped Jewish girls, who were murdered after getting pregnant. It is estimated that over a million children were born to Russian women, fathered by German soldiers.

The one with the breasts being cut off is especially terrifying.

What kind of person would you have to be to get off on that? While the Russians who raped were wrong in doing it, at least one could argue that many of them were full of a desire for vengeance. Many of the German rapes were just needlessly sadistic and unprovoked. And  yes, Nanking was far worse.
