Martin Dumollard - The "Maid killer"


Martin Dumollard was a notorious French serial killer who was active in the mid-19th century. He was known for his brutal and sadistic crimes, which included the murder of at least six women and children. Dumollard would offer his victims employment at a chateau in the country, convincing them to follow him to the isolated outskirts of Lyon. Once alone he would viciously attack his victim - strangling then to death before mutilating and dismembering the body.


He was eventually caught and executed via guillotine on March 7 1862, in front of a packed crowd of 5,000 onlookers.

Dumollard's crimes had a lasting impact on the people of France, who were shocked and horrified by the brutality of his actions. His case was widely covered by the media, and his trial was one of the most sensational of the 19th century. The case also led to changes in the French legal system, as it highlighted the need for better forensic techniques and more rigorous investigations.
