To clarify: the photo is from wWIl, the soldier in the photo is just wearing an older model of Stahlhelm, of which huge number of older surplus were used.
Yeah, figured they would really be used beyond 1935. Just take a look at how dated national guard equipment gets.
His hands almost look like gloves, they are so much darker than his arms. He must almost never have taken off his uniform.
Kinda funny how he's skinny-fat but has impressive quads. Interesting how modern soldiers differ. Bigger upper
bodies, skinnier legs (generally, speaking anecdotally from time in the CF)
The problem was with generation that were born/ children/teens during WWI till ca 1925 were effect by famines caused by British blockade and later
economic collapse of Germany. Once Weimar republic came back on track it became better.
However extreme poverty was constant for a large chunk of the German population in late republic and the Nazi rule. Many of the young men were under developed in thier fysical build. No body fat, short height, lack of muscles. Many of the soldier from
poorer strata of German society only recieved normal deit when they enetered thier military service. One
qoute I found during my research, stuck with me was from an old seargant of the Wehrmacht which served in the Imperial Army; "It is unbelievable that those should become German soldiers.
Thier just small bleak ghosts, scared by hunger. In the old "heer" they would have never come through mnedical selection". And thier more accounts of all veterans of WWI that astonished about the fysical underdevelopment of thier new recruits. Hombremaniac 3y
It surely did play a tremendous role, how Germany was squeezed out of life after WW1. No wonder promises that Hitler made were so tempting.
