A Senior Aum Shinrikyo official Hideo Murai just after being stabbed by the Yamaguchi-gumi yakuza Seo Yoo-hyeng. Japan, 1995
The cult this dude belonged to was ridiculously evil. The level of killing they attempted to pursue could have resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths, had they had proper scientific training. In regards to this particular guy, he had helped kill a lawyer, the
lawyers wife, and the couples ONE year old baby. He built chemical and biological weapons, and took
part in other murders of cult members as well. He.also helped produce massive amounts of drugs, be it Meth (super dirty meth, but it was still meth) and LSD
Aum Shinrikyo was a cult in Japan (they still exist but in a smaller form) with teachings ranging from elements of Hinduism and Buddhism, and a few other teachings.
The cult also took on a few interesting elements, like using yoga to spread its teachings and making its own anime as cult l propaganda. The cult's founder, Shoko Asahara, also declared himself to be the new Christ and claimed to have spiritual powers and proclaimed that there would be an apocalypse and the only survivors would be members of the cult. Unlike many other cults that were mostly made up of poor and ignorant people, Aum Shinrikyo was made up in large part of educated people with lots of money, much of which they were pressured into giving to the cult.
Members of the group who left or went to the police about the abusive practices in the cult were sometimes murdered. The cult became even more dangerous after a series of chemical attacks, including spreading sarin gas in a neighborhood where judges handling cases involving the cult lived and most famous of all, the Tokyo Subway sarin attacks where several members of the cult unleashed sarin gas in crowded subway cars and the panicked passengers ran, spreading the chemicals to others in various subway stations.
Capturing and putting the leaders of the cult on trial was difficult for the Japanese government since the ranks of the civil service, police and army had cult members working in their hierarchy at various levels, but eventually Asahara and the other leaders of the group were caught and sentenced to jail or death, with many members including Asahara himself eventually being hanged.
