A woman in Hong Kong is being investigated for stripping off her clothing in a public library in Causeway Bay.

The incident, captured in a 4-second video, made it's rounds online, shocking citizens and alerting Hong Kong authorities who are currently investigating the case, Hong Kong media HK01 reported on Tuesday (Mar. 7).

The video showed a lady wearing only a mask as she stripped off her dark clothing.

Commenters asked if she was paid to perform the salacious act.

A woman in Hong Kong is being investigated for stripping off her clothing in a public library in Causeway Bay.

The incident, captured in a 4-second video, made it's rounds online, shocking citizens and alerting Hong Kong authorities who are currently investigating the case, Hong Kong media HK01 reported on Tuesday (Mar. 7).

The video showed a lady wearing only a mask as she stripped off her dark clothing.

She was also seen browsing the shelves and flipping through books.

HK01 reported that the incident allegedly happened at Causeway Bay's Central Library.

Responding to HK01's queries, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department stated that the identity of the woman has yet to be established, and that they were unaware of the origins of the video or when it was shot.

They added that the library did not receive any reports of such incidents.

The department reported the incident to Hong Kong police.

Public outcry

The incident sparked outcry amongst Hongkongers, who criticised the woman's brazenness.

Some suspected that the woman and cameraman were filming salacious adult videos.

Others questioned if the woman was paid to do the indecent act, HK01 reported.

Netizens were also puzzled as to why the librarians and security did not seem to notice the outrageous behaviour.

Nevertheless, many called for a thorough investigation into the act of indecency.

South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that the case is under request for investigation by the police and no arrests have been made as of Wednesday (Mar. 8).

Under section 148 of Chapter 200 of the Crimes Ordinance, any person who commits an act of indecency in a public place or in the sight of the public without lawful authority or excuse is liable to a maximum fine of HK$2,000 (approximately S$344) and six months’ imprisonment.
