The Torturers And Murderers Of The Royal Irish Constabulary
The mutilated body of Patrick Loughnane, age 29, Volunteer of the Irish Republican Army, tortured to death alongside his younger brother Harry, by the Royal Irish Constabulary, Britain's colonial police force in Ireland, 1920.
In 1921, he was captured by the IRA and executed. He is one of 46 policemen killed in Tipperary during the War of Independence. In four bloody years of conflict, almost 500 RIC officers were killed and hundreds more injured.

In a new book, written by an acting garda sergeant, tribute is paid to some of these men who, before now, were forgotten, confined to the footnotes of the history books.
Speaking to TheJournal.ie, Sergeant John Reynolds, who is based at the Garda College in Templemore, said Potter was a “very nice man by all accounts”.
“He was an Irishman, and the vast majority of RIC officers were Irishmen,” Reynolds said.

Constables James McDonnell and Patrick O’Connell, both Irishmen, were escorting a horsedrawn carriage from the military barracks in Tipperary when they were attacked.
O’Connell was 30 years old and was engaged to be married. McDonnell was a 50-year-old widower with seven children, all orphaned when he was murdered.”
Here is the story in full
One of the most powerful images of the War of Independence is the coffins containing the charred remains of the Loughnane brothers, Patrick and Harry, who were killed during the most tempestuous week of the conflict in late November 1920.
The brothers, from Shanaglish, Co Galway, were picked up by a mixed force of Royal Irish Constabulary (RIC) and Auxiliaries. The brothers were active members of the IRA locally and Patrick was suspected of having raided the home of an ex-RIC man, William Carr, for a firearm.
The brothers had been out threshing the corn when the detachment arrived as night fell on November 26th, 1920.
After their arrest nothing was heard about them. Their frantic mother, a widow, went from RIC barracks to Auxiliary headquarters in Galway city trying to locate them.
Three days after their arrest, the Auxiliaries called at her home to tell her that her sons had escaped from police custody.
Nobody knows what happened to them though several witnesses who had been with them after their arrest testified to them being brutally tortured.
They were first interrogated in Gort RIC barracks, then tied to the tailgate of a lorry and dragged to Drumharsna Castle near Ardrahan where they were eventually killed.
Their bodies were taken to a spot near where they were killed and burned, but the Auxiliaries neglected to bury the bodies and instead threw them into a muddy pond where they were discovered 10 days later.
Evidently the brothers had been savagely beaten and tortured. Two of Harry’s fingers were cut off. Patrick’s legs and wrists were broken. Both their skulls were so fractured that a doctor speculated that hand grenades were blown up in their mouths.
Shortly afterwards, Tomás OhEighin, a local Irish teacher, took photographs of the bodies in the coffins. The coffins, upright and tilted forward, show the remains of two men who resemble the gothic excesses of a Hieronymus Bosch painting.
The photograph was circulated far and wide. A picture is worth a 1,000 words, goes the old adage. The photograph of the Loughnane brothers spoke to the excesses of Crown forces in Ireland in a way no amount of The Irish Bulletin, the Republican propaganda newsletter at the time, could do.
The discovery of the Loughnane brothers came just two weeks after another incident in Galway which hardened public opinion against British rule in Ireland.
Fr Michael Griffin was abducted from his home in Galway city on November 14th. His body was discovered in a shallow grave near Barna. He had been shot through the head.
The death of a priest, the first in Ireland since Cromwellian times, outraged public opinion in Ireland.
It was raised in the House of Commons by Joe Devlin, one of the few nationalist MPs left in the chamber. He suggested to the chief secretary for Ireland Sir Hamar Greenwood that officers of the Crown had kidnapped Fr Griffin and murdered him.
“I do not believe for a moment that this priest has been kidnapped by any forces of the Crown. It is obviously such a stupid thing that no members of the forces of the Crown would do it, Sir Hamar declared. Mr Devlin tartly replied: “That is why they would do it.”
Some 12,000 people are reported to have attended the murdered priest’s funeral in Loughrea on November 23rd, 1920.

Man beat and stripped cheating wife fully naked – As neighbours stood to watch (See Photos)
Man beat and stripped cheating wife fully naked – As neighbours stood to watch (See Photos) Man beat and stripped cheating wife – Just saw a gruesome video online that broke my heart. Men… and even women stood and watched as this man stripped his wife to her underwear and brutally beat her with a plank. The people who posted the video online said he beat her to death, but that isn’t shown in the video. The last seconds of the video shows the man dragging the very weak woman away. They said the man attacked his wife after catching her with another man. And no, it didn’t happen in Nigeria. I screen-grabbed from the video. De Loys's ape
Louis François Fernand Hector de Loys ( 1892–1935 ) was a Swiss oil geologist. He is remembered today for the claim that he discovered a previously unknown primate, De Loys's ape, during a 1920 oil survey expedition in Venezuela. The identity of the animal he photographed has long been established with considerable confidence to be a spider monkey, and the identification as a new species is generally regarded as a hoax. De Loys's ape Between 1917–1920 , de Loys and his men were searching for oil around the River Tarra and Río Catatumbo at the Venezuela–Colombia border in South America (Bernard Heuvelmans, 1959). This mountainous region, the Sierra de Perijaa, was heavily forested, and that time was inhabited by the 'dangerous' Motilone Indians. One day, while de Loys and his crew were resting near the Tarra River deep in the jungle, two monkeys suddenly stepped out of the woods, screaming and shaking branches. They were holding onto bushes, walked upright, then broke of...
A brutal reminder of how extreme the Japanese Imperial Army was
A Japanese officer beheads a Chinese prisoner. Second-Sino Japanese War, 1937-1945. A brutal reminder of how extreme the Japanese Imperial Army was The Imperial Japanese Army and Navy (which I want to stress were disbanded and no longer exist) were one of the most evil organizations in human history. I remain convinced the Empire of Japan is the most evil regime in human history and worse than Nazi Germany in terms of pure cruelty. Their atrocities just aren't talk about much anymore because Japan is so well liked now in the West. The indiscriminate massacre of civilians. Slaughter of entire cities, torture, inhumane treatment of POWs, countless women forced into sexual slavery, among others. Over their conquest of East Asia, the Japanese Army forced around 200,000 women into the ranks of 'comfort women". These women mainly came from China, Korea, and the Philippines. This is the only thing l could not find a source for, but I distinctly remember reading the firsthand acco...

Shortly before being executed for the murder of Deputy John Murphy, Dennis Dilda was granted the opportunity to pose for a photograph with his wife and two children. His final words before the execution were, "Goodbye, boys!" The Hanging of Dennis Dilda In September 1885, Dilda got a job helping to manage William Hamilton Williscraft’s farm. The farmhouse came along with the job and Dilda and his wife and children moved in. Williscraft went to live elsewhere but kept one room in the farmhouse for himself. The room was always securely locked and inside was a locked trunk. Dilda was supposed to have worked alongside the farm’s general caretaker, “General Grant” Jenkins. By December, however, Jenkins had disappeared, and Williscraft noticed the lock had been pried off the door of his reserved room, the trunk had bee...
