Goran Jelisić, a police officer who called himself the "Serb AH" (after the German WW2 Dictator) executes a Muslim man during the Bosnian War, 1992.. read and watch the video

The year is 1991. The Soviet Union is collapsing as well as the Federation of Yugoslavia. Yugoslavia was a communist federation established during World War II. The countries in Yugoslavia are Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Slovenia, Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Trapped by a ruined economy and poor infrastructure,  these countries replaced communism with nationalism and began to pursue their visions of what their future countries should look like. These nationalistic ideals were influenced by religious and cultural aspects. Slovenia, Croatia, and Macedonia wanted independence, whereas Serbia and Montenegro wanted to preserve Yugoslavia. Bosnia and Herzegovina, one of its regions, wanted independence, but different ethnic groups within Bosnia, like Serbs, Croats, and Bosniaks (Bosnian Muslims), had differing views. This led to conflicts, which escalated into a brutal war with ethnic and territorial disputes.

As a result of these tensions, the Bosnian war broke out in 1992 and lasted until 1995. A tragic part of the war was the ethnic cleansing that took place, in which different groups would target ethnic minorities to create "pure areas". One of these groups, where the Bosnian Muslims, who faced some of the worst treatment of the entire war. Millions of Bosniaks were displaced and thousands were killed.

Above, Goran Jelisić, a convicted war criminal, was a key figure during the ethnic cleansing. He commanded the Luka Camp, a concentration camp, and killed many Muslims and civilians in a smilia4 fashion. He boasted of killing 20-30 Muslims every day before his morning coffee. He is one of the most infamous war criminals in Eastern Europe, and his trial is used as a standard for genocide cases around the world. Goran is currently in prison.
