Here are a few incidents that you will not find in our history books.

1891, in New Orleans, eleven Italian prisoners found not guilty by a jury were executed by a mob in the largest lynching in American history. 

1891, several Italians were lynched in West Virginia.

March 1894, several hundred Italians were driven out of Altoona, Pennsylvania, by an armed mob. 

1895, six Italian labor organizers were lynched in Colorado, six more in Hahnville, Louisiana, as were five Italian shopkeepers 

Around 1899 Italians were lynched in West Virginia, and 1910 in Tampa, Fl.

 In the 1920′s there were anti-Italian riots in West Frankfort, Illinois. Luigi Carraro was murdered. Later, the mob attacked anyone who looked foreign.

World War 2 Italian American (Non-citizen Italians in the United States) were placed in internment camps.

You may want to read this GUNS, GOATS, and ITALIANS: THE TALLULAH LYNCHING OF 1899 and Dark Legacy.  This article told of lynchings in Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida, Colorado, Kentucky, Illinois, Washington, and New York between the years of 1885 and 1915, some 50 killings in all. . Italians were lynched in the South as were blacks, in some cases for permitting blacks equal status with whites in their shops.
